There shall be base ball

To a rousing huzzah! from cranks and ballists alike, Bay Area Vintage Base Ball has announced its 2021 schedule, an abbreviated slate of games designed to effect a return to the field as our region continues to recover from last year's outbreak of plague.

The association's first games in nearly 15 months will open Sunday, June 6, with all 10 of the league's teams in action. Four East Bay squads will square off at Fallon Sports Park in Dublin, while the Berkeley Clarions will join the five San Francisco teams in a triple header at the Big Rec diamonds in that fair city.

The nine game schedule will culminate in the league's annual Championship Match on October 3 as the top two finishers face off. That same day, the Golden Gate Cup competition will begin, with the top six regular season squads vying for the prize that awaits the winner of the post season tournament's October 24 final match.

Much has changed throughout B.A.V.B.B. since games were last played, with the usual winter comings and goings of ballists perhaps amplified by conditions over the past year and more. One notable on-field change pertains to the Oakland nine, who will host matches on Alameda Island in 2021. The Colonels will show off the sparkle of their new home diamond on June 27, when the Sea Lions swim across the bay from San Francisco for a noon match.

Watch this space for any changes or updates in the schedule.
